Before getting to the hearth of the contents of this book, Let’s make a purely linguistic remark.
:The word logo, which should be simply a diminutive of logotype,
is little by little taking on the meaning of trademark.
As a matter of the fact, the word logotype refers simply to a textual element, whereas trademark refers to its figurative version, which may be an abstract image or a schematized representation.
For this book, the word logo has been chosen because of its immediacy and incisiveness, but we can assume that the generalization of its meaning is due to a more widespread(even if imprecise) usage of the word itself among a larger segment of the population.
This popularity is a good sign, though. A great contribution to this shift in meaning certainly comes from the best-seller no logo by naomi klein, who, while speaking of something else ( actually, global economy), by meaning of a most effective title, hints at the importance of trademarks in the commercial polices of big companies.
